I hunted over a dog for the first time when I moved to Nova Scotia at the age of 30. I was immediately hooked on spaniels!  The progression from hunting with a friend with a dog to buying a hunting dog, then a field trial reject, then a field trial dog,  then the Dog Bus was quick and expensive. I have been trialing for 23 years. There are over 250 ribbons covering the basement walls. Eleven of them are National  ribbons from both sides of the border. I have enjoyed competing at Nationals for over 20 consecutive years. I’ve judged trials over the years but did not get the opportunity to judge as many as I would have liked to. Unfortunately, Unfortunately, because of work commitments, I’ve had to turn down many judging invitations. I’m now retired! I am passionate about spaniels. We own 8 spaniels, 2 dachshunds, and the Dog Bus! I would be honored to judge your dogs Amateur National.

My experience with Spaniels began in 1989 when I purchased my first Field Bred Springer from Tom Meyer; Bluff Creek’s Prairie Robber. Robbie and I spent the next several years together hunting grouse and woodcock in Michigan, ducks, geese and pheasants in Oregon and Wisconsin. The U.S. Coast Guard took my family and I to Texas in 2008. I had just purchased a new puppy and knew it would be a struggle to find public hunting in Texas. While stationed in Michigan I had been introduced to Spaniel Hunt Tests. I decided to search out a local Spaniel Club in hopes of developing and competing with my new charge. Thru my relationship with the Houston/S.E. TX clubs I was exposed to the world of Spaniel Field Trials. Since running our first puppy stake in 2009, we have made up one Master Hunter, six American Amateur Field Trial Championships, three Canadian Amateur Field Trial Championships, two Canadian Field Championships and one Canadian Canadian Open National Field Trial Champion; Southaven’s Pathfinder (Trace) handled in the 2017 National Open by Clay Earl. In addition to Trace’s victory our dogs have received numerous awards at Nationals; a third, a fourth and four Certificates of Merit since 2014. Apart from our personal dogs many of our puppies have had success in the Field Trial Arena, both in the U.S. and Canada. Highlighted by one Canadian Open High Point Award, two North American High Point Awards, and one Amateur High Point award. I started my judging career in 2014 judging Hunt Tests. Over the next four years I completed 12 assignments. 2018 brought me my first invitation to an All-Age Field Trial Judging Assignment. Between 2018 and 2023 I have judged 30 American Springer Spaniel All Age Stakes, 21 American Cocker Spaniel All Age Stakes, and 9 Canadian Spaniel All Age Stakes. Besides actively running dogs and judging, I have gunned trials in Ohio, Illinois, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, and Ontario. I have served on two National Committees in the U.S. (1 open, 1 Amateur), and functioned as the Field Trial Chairmen for the Tilden Valley trial from 2019 to 2022. Training, hunting, and trialing is more than a hobby, it is a passion. I consider It a privilege every time I walk behind our merry little dogs.

Qualified from the 2023 Open National – July 31st 2024

Any dogs  placing in an Amateur CKC trial Aug 1st 2024- open National 2024 will also be eligible to enter the 2024 Amateur National
